Man why is it every Indoor season do I pick up some random injury that keeps me out for at least a week? I’m sitting on the sidelines again, trying to strengthen the knee, take some NSAIDs and rest/ice as much as I can, however the new job doesn’t help. I ran a solid 8:43.3 with mediocre training, so that’s an encouraging thought going into the outdoor season. I think I’m going to skip the rest of indoors to concentrate on a spring half-marathon. I’d really like to see what I could do with real training, since the only other half I did was the Brooklyn one with 5 days a week training and I still managed to squeeze out a 1:14 and finish 28th out of 6000 people, in New York no less. At least the running group are putting up good times and people are training hard, I’ll be back there soon just have to be patient (something that’s generally lacking in runners).

I’m pretty content with all the other aspects of my life. The web design is going well, just finished an awesome site for the Montreal running community at www.montrealendurance.com so that’s always fun. Working on finishing up the Gerts Bar website, the ARAM website (you can visit that one HERE) and finished the Golden Key McGill website (you can visit that one HERE as well). As for my other job (Physiotherapist) I’m working at the CLSC Métro in downtown Montreal. I’m doing home visits for physio in the people who’ve lost autonomy. It’s challenging because I haven’t experienced that type of clientel at home but it’s stimulating as well because you have to be very independent and dynamic as well.

So I’m writing this from the basement of the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital as I’m waiting for Catherine to finish her experiment. Oh I haven’t officially announced to the blog that I’m engaged to my wonderful girlfriend Catherine so here it is. It happened on the beaches of Cuba on New Year’s Eve. It was the best way to bring in the new year in my opinion.

Alright enough rambling, I’ll try to post that video of me running from Montreal Endurance later tonight.

Keep running,

-Steve

Hey everyone,

Just a little quick update on what’s going on with me after being missing since after XC nationals. I took some time off running a bit, recharged the batteries, then ran out with some of the boys on a 21 km run through a blizzard and strained my calf. I only did my first track workout last night. Wasn’t a hard workout thankfully, a simple:

4 x (400-300-200), 30 sec rest between reps, 5 mins between sets. I hit 66-48-31 on average, so not too strenuous. A nice little step back into the fast lane if I say so.

Right now I’m at the gym, relaxing, enjoying some coffee and blogging. Yesterday I was running around, first an interview at a CLSC since I’ll be working near the Guy-Concordia metro doing physiotherapy home visits for people who can’t come to the clinic. After that interview I was off to Anjou (east-end of Montreal) to get my license number for physiotherapy from the Quebec professional order. However once I was there they couldn’t give it to me unless I returned a blasted book to McGill, so I booked it there, returned the book to the school of PT, and got my number. Also payed off the library fines I owed, McGill must make a killing from those things.

So what’s the next little bit looking like for me? Well I’m going to be doing some stuff here and there until I leave for Cuba on the 25th, some webdesign, hanging out with friends/family, just enjoying some well-earned time off (I worked 4 months for free doing internships until this week). I’ll post up some pictures from Cuba as soon as I get back, and give you guys some details on my trip.

So keep on running people,

-Steve

Hey everyone,

Just a little update on how I did this weekend. I finished 50th overall, with a pretty solid time of 33:17 considering the snow and blizzard like conditions that were present in the morning of the race. I’ve still be recovering this week from the race, as it managed to take a bit more out of me than I thought. I was surprised that the 3rd and 4th laps I was stronger than usual, it must mean I’m racing a little smarter and pushing hard through the end. Now I have a week off and get to focus on finishing PT school and moving forward with my life

And to make this post a little more interactive, I’m adding a video of the Senior Men’s race from the people at Runner’s Space.com, to which they add a little section at the end where you can see everyone finish. I think if you skip directly to 29:42 you can see me staggering across the finish line.

Edit – Added the Senior Women’s Race for some of my teammates, hope they enjoy it!

Enjoy!

So I’m on the bus towards Guelph stuck behind two huge trucks on the Quebec team bus. They’ve somehow managed to turn this into a one lane slow highway. Anyways, having a good time with all the runners from Quebec, it’s a good mix of runners from Montreal and other parts of Quebec, old friends from McGill Olympic and newer friends like my friends from Concordia.

I’m excited for what could be my last trip to Guelph and my cross-country nationals, it’s pretty awesome that I’ve gone for 3 years in a row, 2nd out of 3 years I’m on the Quebec team. Last year I didn’t make it since I was hurt and recovering from injuries during XC season, but I still beat most of the Quebec team during the race. Only difference of being on the team and not is a Quebec jersey, and I got one of those already in 2008, the 2010 one is a bonus.

I’ve been thinking about my future running, I’ve been doing everything well the last month and keeping up with my training and actually doing faster intervals with fast people. It’s been going well but I need to see the transition that I’ll have to make once I’m a full-time physio and not a student who can miss days whenever.

I don’t know what to predict for tomorrow. I made a prediciton of 33:45 or better for John, my best time there was last year at 32:59 with the rib fracture. This year I’m healthy and I’ve run 32:22 so I should be able to run at least 32:30 if the course isn’t too bad. I’m going for a top 40 finish, that’s the true goal. I just need to stick with the pack and keep my cool the first two laps, then break out 3rd and 4th lap as people are dying. If I do that I can surely finish well.

Alright more later, I’ll write something about my web designer status and projects later on this week. I’ll have all the free time in the world since I’m not running so I’ll have time to keep you guys updated. Btw I hope you guys enjoy the WordPress -> Facebook blog integration, that way everyone on Facebook can stay updated without even visiting StevenMcElligott.com
